Distance to Fire Hydrant
Distance to fire hydrant is how far a property is from the nearest working hydrant — a key input to fire-suppression capability and insurance protection class.
Fire insurance rating heavily weights how quickly firefighters can get water to a structure. A property within a standard distance (commonly 1,000 feet) of a recognized hydrant is treated as having far better suppression capability than one relying on tanker shuttle, which lowers fire risk and premium.
The measurement is the road or straight-line distance from the structure to the nearest hydrant. Together with fire station distance it feeds the ISO Public Protection Classification used by most carriers.
