Distance to Water
Also known as: Distance to waterbodies
Distance to water measures how far a property is from lakes, rivers, reservoirs, or other inland waterbodies, used to assess flood and water-related exposure.
Beyond coastal exposure, proximity to inland water affects flood risk, erosion, and sometimes liability. Underwriters use distance to the nearest waterbody as one signal alongside flood-zone maps and elevation.
The measurement identifies the closest qualifying waterbody and the straight-line distance to it from the structure.
